The Stolen App

My attempt to get my work back and sue the bastards that are passing it off as their own.

The Characters

Professor Mad Rhymes

You know this guy already. He’s your funny uncle who gets all the words to his favorite songs wrong. He’s your father, brilliantly smart but somehow he manages to misplace the glasses that are hanging around his neck. Perhaps he’s the friendly teacher at school always willing to share unsolicited anecdotal life lessons that makes absolutely no sense. The Professor, in a nutshell is all these things rolled into one. With the brilliance of Einstein, the mind of Mr’s Magoo and the personality of Mr. Rogers, how could a kid get bored.

So what should he look like?

The Agreement and the Theft

I don’t have much but I do have the truth

You’re probably thinking ~ oh here we go another newbie to the app world. She was getting in over her head and she deserves everything she gets. Great now that we got that out of the way, allow me to explain where I’m coming from.

Who Hired Who?

Last year, I designed an app. The foundation of said app, truly started 3 years ago but when I say designed I mean — I illustrated, created the characters the story line, vo scripts, all moving parts and everything in between. Wanting to make my dreams a reality, I drew up a wireframe (a blueprint if you will) to explain to any would be developer the plan and purpose of said app. I put an outline of my project up on Elance (recommended by a friend) and the bids came in.

Professor Mad Rhymes - The Bid - from the development company

NOTE – they had a 5 star rating when I chose them. When they closed their account they had a 2.9 rating.

It started with a dream…

Grab a cup of tea and sit back; this is gonna be a long one.

My parents would say that I’ve been an entrepreneur since the day I came out of the womb; and they’d be completely right. As I look back on all those years, there doesn’t seem to be a time when I wasn’t drawing, writing or playing shop. I especially loved any kind of “leading toy brand” grocery store checkout system. You know the one, a cash register, fake money and plastic replicas of grocery store items.

As I got older, I took a liking to art and writing. I began crafting stories and characters with the introduction of our first family computer. Today, that computer would be in a museum somewhere, but back then it was my creative heaven; my outlet for all things artistic. After about a month of learning all the programs and getting aquatinted with our dot-matrix printer, I was writing stories (and music) “the professional way”. I used clip art or illustrations I drew, as place holders for characters.
